Jerome said before that there was no evidence of Johnny sending people to
threaten her.
And even if it was found to be related to him, his men hadn’t done anything
substantial. If he did get caught, it would at most be a few lines of warnings in the police record.
So, Mike did a background check on Johnny and had him taken away during the
opening ceremony of his business for improper conduct.
They thought he would be locked up for a few years. They didn’t expect him to be released so quickly.
“But you
don’t need to worry too much. He’s a coward who bullies the weak and fears the strong. Now that he knows Mr. Miller has dealt with him for your sake, he won’t dare to act recklessly again.
“I’ll warn him to stay away from you when he gets released. If he dares to lay a finger
on you again, I won’t let him off,” Betty said reassuringly.
Upon hearing this, Mikayla smiled. “Okay. The law is there to protect me. He can’t just do as he pleases.”
The two chatted about this for a while. Betty then suggested, “Celeste has been back. for a few days. How about us besties getting together for lunch one day?”
“Sure, I’ll call her right now.”
Just as Mikayla took her phone out, Celeste called her.
“Hey, we really are connected. I was just about to call you,” Mikayla said jokingly.
“Let me go first!” Celeste exclaimed. “Some colleagues from our department are planning a company trip, and we can bring family members along. Noah’s not available, so you’ll have to accompany me!”
“Why didn’t you mention it yesterday? It’s so sudden,” Mikayla asked.
“I wasn’t planning on taking you initially. Noah is busy today so I’m asking you to fill in,
Celeste said. “It’s been a while since we’ve been on a trip together. Where are you how? I’ll come to pick you up!”
“By the way, why did you call me?” Celeste suddenly remembered.
Mikayla looked at Betty, who smiled and took the phone. “Celeste, I wanted to invite
you and Mikayla to have a meal together. Since you have plans today, we’ll
reschedule.”
“Sure, no problem. We’ll have a good one together next time,” Celeste readily agreed.
After bidding farewell to Betty, Mikayla headed out.

“I’ll go back and change my clothes first. You can pick me up at Dragoncrest Villa later,” Mikayla said.
Celeste said, “Why go back? You’re pretty in anything you wear!”
Upon hearing Celeste’s laughter from the other end, Mikayla said, “I know I’m pretty,
but let’s keep it low–key.”
“Sure, low–key it is. Stay right there. I’m coming over now.”
Mikayla didn’t have to wait long before Celeste arrived.
Celeste was driving, and there were two other of her colleagues in the car. The passenger seat was left vacant for Mikayla.
After greeting Celeste and her colleagues, Mikayla asked, “Where are we going?”
Celeste smiled confidently. “You’ll see when we get there. It’s a place with a beautiful. scenery. You’ll definitely like it.”
Mikayla then asked, “Only us here?”
“The others went ahead in another car. We’ll meet up when we get there,” Celeste
said.
Celeste’s two nurse colleagues were young ladies as well. They gossiped and chatted about makeup.
After about two hours, they arrived at their destination.
The other colleagues from Celeste’s department were already there. They were
taking photos excitedly.
It was a villa nestled in the mountains, and it was also next to a lake. It had a
beautiful environment on a large piece of land.
The gate was grand, and the signboard on top was very eye–catching–Riverside
Resort.
Mikayla suddenly remembered something while looking at that name.
