Athena removed the heart–shaped pendant from her neck, something she had never taken off before. It was a cherished possession, and Bree had often asked for it, but Athena always refused.

Now, she was giving her most treasured gift to Sheila. The heart–shaped pendant opened into two, with a picture of Athena on one side and a picture of Sheila and Alpha Nick on the other.

It was the only picture they had taken together on their wedding day, a moment Athena held dear and kept close to her heart, never revealing the secret the pendant held.

Afraid that Sheila would reject it, Athena made sure not to reveal the second layer. “I want you to always keep

this with you.”

Knowing the pendant’s significance to Athena, Sheila was reluctant to accept it. “Ma’am, this pendant means so

much to you.”

Athena gestured for her to sit on the bed, and Sheila reluctantly complied, Athena clasped the golden chain of the pendant around her neck.

“That’s why I want you to have it. If you don’t take it, then you have to promise me that you will stay.”

Feeling cornered, Sheila couldn’t refuse. Her eyes teared up as she spoke. “Ma’am, thank you very much. I will always keep this with me.”

A satisfied smile appeared at the corner of Athena’s lips. “That is exactly what I want to hear. So, where are you going? I can buy you a house. Has my son settled you well enough?”

She was worried that Sheila would not be well taken care of. If her son had not provided for her adequately, Athena was determined to make him fulfill his obligation.

Sheila was moved by all the love and care shown to her by Athena since she married Alpha Nick and even after the divorce. It was because of Athena that she couldn’t hate Alpha Nick or the pack in any way.

“Ma’am, please don’t worry about me. I’m really fine, seriously.” She didn’t want Athena to insist on it, as she had rejected everything given to her, including her belongings.

Her lifestyle in the pack was different from what she was used to, and now, she was going to be her old self, not

needing those items.

Thinking about the sacrifices and efforts she had put in to win Alpha Nick’s heart, Sheila felt her heart tighten her chest. Unrequited love was a very painful and lonely journey with no expectation of when it would end.

“If you say so, but make sure you always call me, or I will come looking for you,” Athena warned seriously, and Sheila knew she meant every word.

She never intended to break the relationship between her and Athena in any way. “Perhaps you will be the one to get tired of my calls.”

Athena smiled at her remark. “That will never happen.” She knew that she would never have enough of Sheila and would continuously miss her.

After a long hug, Sheila reluctantly left Athena. As she reached the door, Tedmond, who had been waiting for what felt like an eternity, was upset when he saw the pendant on Sheila’s neck.

“Where did you get that?”

“Ma’am gave it to me,” Sheila smiled and responded. Tedmond furiously walked past her, storming into the

Athena was just about to go back to sleep when she was awakened by Tedmond’s presence, already guessing the reason for his fury as he raged,

“Your daughter wanted that pendant, and yet, you gave it to Sheila. Did you forget that she is no longer the Lunal of this pack?”

Athena spoke honestly. “I love her, whether or not she is the Luna of this pack. What does it matter to you who I choose to give my pendant to?”

She yawned, finding his presence irritating for the first time because of the argument. As she raised her left hand to cover her mouth, Tedmond saw the green jewelry on her wrist.

“Where did you get that?” He drew closer and examined the emerald bracelet closely. Athena had not stepped out of the ward, but that emerald bracelet was never a part of her jewelry collection,

Athena chose to be sarcastic due to the shocked look on Tedmond’s face. “I haven’t stepped out of this ward, so where do you think I got it from?”

Tedmond had thought about it but didn’t want to accept it. How could Sheila afford that expensive bracelet, especially after rejecting her alimony? There must be a mistake. “It couldn’t be Sheila. Unless it’s fake.”

Athena was greatly upset by Tedmond’s reasoning and how little he thought of Sheila. She felt that Sheila must have given her all since she didn’t have much, making a mental note to search for her later to help her financially.

Athena also couldn’t help feeling that the bracelet must have been gifted to her by someone important. Yet, sho couldn’t allow herself to feel guilty about it, as it would always remind her of Sheila.

“She might be an orphan, but she gives her very best, just as she did for our family and pack,” Athena said with a taunting grin.

Tedmond was speechless. Since when did his mate become like this right under his nose, and he never even saw it coming.

Outside Athena’s ward, Sheila was walking out of the hospital when Alpha Nick pulled her into one of the doctor’s offices in the pack hospital..

“Excuse us,” he said to the doctor who was discussing something with a nurse. They quickly left the office without arguing, as it was the Alpha and the Luna requesting to be excused.

Already aware of Athena’s condition, they felt that Alpha Nick might of upset because of his mother’s condition.

Sheila remembered the time given to her, and as she checked her phone’s time, she began to panic, fearing that Goldie would indeed call for backup like she promised.

She had barely two minutes to get to the car. “I have to go now.” She tried to run out of the door, but Alpha Nick: quickly blocked the doorway.

“We have to talk.”

Sheila’s heart skipped a beat when she heard the sound of the Rolls Royce pulling into the car park of the packhouse. The Dark Moon Pack had one of the most luxurious pack houses, requiring the services of omegas all the time. The Alpha had been away on an important journey and no one knew how long it was going to take. His sudden arrival caused the omegas to hasten about their duties as if walking on eggshells as Sheila spoke to her most trusted friend with a heavy heart. “You have to go. Alpha Nick is back. Please use the back door so he doesn’t see you. He is quite sensitive so don’t let him catch your scent.” Seated on the curvy kitchen stool, her most trusted friend, Goldie, felt an inexplicable pain in her chest. “Why should you be afraid of your husband? You even call him by his title.”
