Alexander included. Snapping back to reality, he felt an involuntary chill down his spine.

Suppressing his fury, he hoisted Isabella off the ground. Moments before, a sliver of guilt had flickered in his heart, but now, he was nearly compelled to hurl this oblivious

woman down the stairs.

Only then did Isabella come to her senses, facing someone with an icy demeanor, utterly unaware of what had transpired.

“Put me down…”

Her struggles were futile; Alexander’s towering height meant her feet

couldn’t even touch the ground.

Coupled with her disheveled hair and dirt–stained dress, she looked every bit the part of a madwoman.

Alexander’s face remained taut. Were it not for the lingering guilt he felt towards this woman, he might have already choked the life out of her.

“So, you were going to castrate me,

huh?”

His frosty tone made the onlookers involuntarily swallow hard. The boss had a long memory for grievances, and it seemed Ms. Sterling was in for another bout of misfortune.

Isabella raised her eyebrows in suspicion. How could he possibly know what she had been thinking? During her confinement, she had thought incessantly about how to get back at Alexander, the lunatic, even dreaming

about it…

The memory of her dream brought a

flush of embarrassment to her cheeks, coloring her face with a hint of red. Meeting his cold gaze, Isabella, of

course, would rather die than admit her thoughts.

“Mr…. Mr. Alexander, what kind of joke

is this? I wouldn’t dare…”

“It’s better that way. If you harbor any more ill intentions, I won’t let you leave here alive next time.”

Without warning, Alexander let go, causing Isabella to crash to the floor. She didn’t bother getting up, instead sitting there and starting to cry.

Over the years with the Sterlings, Isabella learned to hide her sharpness and show weakness when necessary; otherwise, she wouldn’t have survived the torment from her stepmother and Charlotte.

Her tears were moving, filled with grievance, turning her face into a

tear–stained mess.

Alexander hadn’t expected her tears to come so readily, his brows furrowing deeply.

“Sebastian, tell Aunt Audrey to prepare

her a meal.”

With that, he turned and left, not dwelling on Isabella’s earlier words.

The only thought in his mind was how noisy this woman was.

Sebastian glanced down at Isabella, his heart swelling with a bit more sympathy. The boss had indeed been rather unfair this time.

Ms. Sterling had made him billions, and in return, he had scared her with Earl and locked her up without food for two days.

That

That was not just unfair; it was

excessive!

Of course, these thoughts were kept to

himself. Since the boss had played the villain, Sebastian found himself in the

role of the sympathetic one.

“Ms. Sterling, the boss didn’t mean to keep you here on purpose. It was just that there was an emergency with the company abroad, and he had to leave in a hurry without making arrangements for you. But the

moment he remembered you were still

here, he rushed back as soon as he

could.”

Isabella’s crying stopped abruptly, a glimmer of doubt surfacing in her

eyes.

Alexander had remembered her? He had come back early for her?

Downstairs, Aunt Audrey had already prepared the meal. Alexander sat at the head of the table with a cold

expression, his presence chilling the air around him. Seeing Isabella follow Sebastian down, his expression

darkened even further.

Her disheveled appearance was indeed an appetite suppressor.

However, Aunt Audrey’s face was full

of warm smiles. Having worked at the Windsor for many years, it was the first time an outsider dined in this

household.

Though rumors swirled about the young master and Charlotte, the young master had never invited her to dine.

Over the past two days, hearing Isabella’s voice from upstairs had

moved Aunt Audrey deeply, especially after hearing about the young lady’s refusal to acknowledge the money she helped earn.

In these years, she had seen many women attempt to cling to the young

master, but Isabella was the first who didn’t seek vanity.

In the words of the current era, this
