Chapter two
~Amara
Nova aimed for Rielle’s n*eck but within a blink of an eye, Rielle had turned too. And to my horror, her wolf dwarfed mine. With a swipe of a large paw, she tossed me away effortlessly.
I hit the wall with a sickening thud. Everything was hazy for a minute but Nova was blinded by anger, she tried to get up immediately but the moment she tried to balance on her hind legs, she howled in pain. One of her legs was definitely broken and it hurt like hell.
She howled in pain as the shocked expression of the crowd gave away to Amusement. Laughter tore through the hall and I wanted nothing than to disappear and never be found.
Nova looked to Lucien who had an inscrutable expression on his face. He stalked towards us in precise strides until he was before us.
Nova whined and my gut leadened. She was calling Lucien’s wolf to help us. But the expression on his face told me that helping us was the last thing on his mind.
“Turn,” He commanded.
As the Alpha, he could do that but it was still surprising to me the way that Nova gave me back my b*dy and control so easily.
Lucien’s eyes bore into me and I felt utterly n*ked.
“What the f**k were you thinking?” His voice was cold.
“A f**king omega attacking my mate.”
At that moment, I didn’t know what possessed me.
“I am your mate!” I said louder than intended.
His eyes darkened with hate. “Are you f**king retarded?” He asked.
“But with your kind, it wouldn’t be surprising.” His smile was a harsh line.
He was talking about Omegas as if we were rogues.
“I am your mate,” I repeated.
“I am an Alpha, you are nothing. You can’t be my mate.”
“F*king btch.” Rielle said, stepping in beside him.
“Your father was mated to an Omega,” I reminded him.
His grey eyes darkened to black at my statement.
But it was Rielle that landed a hard slap across my cheek. It stung so bad that I saw stars.
I held my burning cheek but I did not even look up at Rielle, my eyes were on Lucien. He stalked even closer and I ripped my uniform and exposed my mark. The one he had given me.
“You marked me,” I told him.
The whole room seemed to hold its breath.
Only then did I see the spark of recognition light up his eyes. He remembered.
“You…” He said in shocked but he recovered. “It does not matter.” His eyes went cold again.
“What do you mean?” I asked, my voice was shaky.
“It doesn’t matter if you are my mate.”
A gasp tore through the watching crowd.
“This thing is your mate?” Rielle’s eyes widened.
“It seems like it.” His eyes did not leave mine.
“But like I said, it doesn’t really matter.”
“Lucien…” I croaked.
“Don’t call me that.” He growled.
“But I am your mate.”
“Not for long. What is your name?”
“Amara, Amara Müller.” Then it clicked right then, what he was about to do. Nova knew too.
Lucien cleared his throat. “I, Lucien Petrov, Alpha of Silverpine pack, reject you, Amara Müller as my mate.”
I felt the air leave my lungs at his declaration but I understood what I had to do.
“I, Amara Müller, accept your rejection.”
Then he pulled Rielle closer and k*ssed her but his eyes never left mine. He wanted me to see what exactly he thought of me.
I tried to get up and as pathetic as I was, I couldn’t not even run out of the venue with dignity because of my now broken leg. I had to be carried out by beta Greyson.
“Take care,” He said as he left me with some of the staff.
I couldn’t leave my apartment for a while but thank the goddess, I had my mum. She helped with the chores as my leg healed. Luckily for whatever reason it healed completely in a month. Yet, I wouldn’t leave my place. The humiliation burned bright and hot. Still, it was not only that but Nova was depressed and in turn so was I. I could not understand why Lucien’s rejection hurt more than my broken leg, or the humiliation. I did not love him. Hell, I didn’t even know him. Still my heartache was ten times worse than when Kevin had cheated on me.
Sometimes later mum came with someone.
“I don’t want to see anyone,” I told mum as they entered my room.
“You have no say in the matter.” An elderly voice said from over my shoulder. I turned to see the most notorious member of the Zeta elders. Agatha but most called her The Crone.
In her mouth was a lit cigarette. “Come on, get up.” Her tone gave no room for argument.
Mum left us and silence reigned for a few minutes as she blew puff after puff of burning tobacco.
“So… what’s the matter?” She asked.
“I… I… I… It hurts.” I said, sounding like a child who just bruised her knee.
“After he rejected you?”
“Yes,” I affirmed.
“How bad?”
“I feel like I cannot breathe. Like some part of me as been ripped out.”
“Some part of you has been ripped out.” She blew out a puff.
“The mating bond is powerful, it’s ingrained in you. Do you want to be rid of it?” She asked.
I blinked. “The mating bond?”
“Yes. Did you really think a few words could sever it completely?
”
“No…”
“I’ll break it, if you want the pain to stop.”
I thought about it and realized that it was the wise thing to do. Lucien had moved on. He had chosen someone else. I would do the same.
“Yes.”
Only then did the crone smile.
“Good choice, nothing should hold you back, not even a mate.”
She took a hold of my shoulder, where is the mark still was and she placed another hand on my chest. I felt a buzz and a pull. The hand on my chest caught something invisible and she pulled on it hard. Then I could have sworn that I heard a snap. I felt instantly light, like a weight had been lifted off my chest. The mark on my shoulder was begining to fade. The bond was broken.
Mum entered with a tray of food but the moment the aroma reach my nostrils, nausea washed over me like a cold blanket and I made a run for it.
I came back to see mum’s figeting form pacing and the crone eyed me suspiciously.
“When last did you see your period?” She asked.
I should have seen it a week ago. My blood suddenly turned to ice.
“Let me see you,” The crone said.
After her examination, she pursed her l*ps and silence stretched. When she finally spoke, “Amara, you are pregnant.”
