The Brilliant Mrs. Windsor Chapter 37

Chapter 37: Losing Everything

Isabella seemed to waver in the face

of their enthusiasm.

“But I’m not very good. I’m afraid I’ll spoil your fun.”

“It’s fine, just a casual game.”

Half–coaxed, half–dragged, Isabella found herself at the card table. With

a sigh, she sat down and reluctantly pulled out the few bills from her pocket, counting them.

“I only have three hundred.”

The others were stunned. They

knew Isabella was poor, but not this

poor.

Though not from top families, those

close to Charlotte had some wealth.

They could easily spare a few

hundred thousand in pocket money.

Everyone else stifled their laughter. Charlotte gritted her teeth. Having come this far, she couldn’t give up.

“No matter, three hundred it is. Let’s

start with one round.”

The cards were quickly dealt. Seeing Isabella’s uneasy expression,

Charlotte and Evelyn exchanged a mocking glance.

It seemed she truly wasn’t good at

this.

Their suspicions were confirmed as Isabella lost her meager three hundred.

“I told you I’m not good at this. That was my living expenses for the next

two weeks…”

Charlotte raised an eyebrow,

consoling her in a gentle voice, “It’s

alright, sister. We’re all having such a good time. Think if there’s anything else you can wager.”

“What about that pendant on your

neck? It must be worth something.”

Hearing this, Isabella immediately covered the pendant with her hand.

“No, this was my mother’s. Besides,

it’s not worth much.”

Charlotte’s eyes flashed. As far as she could remember, Isabella had worn

that pendant since she first arrived at the Sterlings‘. It was clearly

important to her.

Taking what others cherished – that was her specialty!

“Sister, don’t worry. No one will

mind. How about this – we’ll count

the pendant as a ten thousand wager. What do you say?”

Reluctantly, Isabella took off the pendant and placed it on the table. “In that case, I’ll play one more

round with you.”

But the result was the same. Isabella

lost again, and the pendant fell into Charlotte’s hands.

Of course, Charlotte had no interest in Isabella’s shabby trinket. She planned to toss it in the trash as soon

as she left.

This time, it was Isabella who

couldn’t accept it.

“No, you must have cheated!”

“Sister, you’re wronging us. You

simply lack skill. Now that you have

nothing left to lose, you can go.”

There was more fun in store for her

later!

Isabella gritted her teeth, her eyes

reddening.

“No, let’s go again. I have to win it

back!”

Charlotte and her gaggle of friends looked at Isabella with derision,

knowing she was blinded by her

losses.

They all knew Isabella was dirt poor. They just wanted to toy with her through the game. They never expected her to be such a sore loser.

“Sister, you’ve lost everything you own. What else can you wager?”

Isabella’s eyes darkened. She

clenched her jaw, seeming to reach a

decision.

“I still have my body. This round, I’ll bet myself. If you win, you can do whatever you want with me. Even if you sell me, I won’t complain.”

Charlotte’s eyes lit up. Though Evelyn had already arranged for people, Isabella willingly offering

herself was naturally better than kidnapping.

After all, if kidnapping were investigated in the future, she could

end up in jail.

Recently, she had her eye on a big role. But the director was a lecher. If she could present Isabella to him, the part would be hers.

“Sister, are you sure? If you lose, you’ll have to do whatever we say, including… sleeping with men?”

Isabella nodded, her face resolute.

“It’s just sleeping with men, what’s the big deal? But since I’m wagering my body, shouldn’t you show some sincerity too?”
